The Commonwealth Games Federation is considering whether to introduce mixed relays incorporating para athletes at future Games.
The para-sport programme at the XXI Commonwealth Games on Australia's Gold Coast is larger than ever before, with 300 athletes and 38 medal events across seven sports.
As part of its quest to continue to innovate it has been mooted the CGF would like to introduce relays in athletics and swimming involving both impaired and non-impaired athletes.
The subject will first be explored with the International Paralympic Committee.
CGF chief executive David Grevemberg told Press Association Sport: "There's some people talking about it. Nothing is ever off the table.
"We're always looking to innovate. That would be both innovative and inspirational. How it works, I don't know yet. But is it something we should take a look at? Absolutely.
"It would be something we'd discuss with the IPC and the relevant sports. It would have to fit."
A review of the sports programme will follow the Gold Coast Games, ahead of the Birmingham 2022 edition.
There are mixed gender relays in triathlon here, with the event introduced at Glasgow 2014.
One potential issue with the latest discussion point is the depth of the fields, as it has not been possible to replicate the standard of competition at a Paralympics in many of the para-sport events here.
If discussions progress on mixed relays, they could be first be trialled at a Commonwealth Youth Games.
Grevemberg added: "With any of these events you need to make sure you've got depth and quality.
"Part of that would be whether we have that within the Commonwealth, already available, and do we pilot it in some form or fashion at a future Games."
