Serena and Venus Williams given wild card to compete in 2026 US Open women's doubles tournament

Serena and Venus Williams will play together in the 2026 US Open women's doubles after being given a wild card to enter the tournament.

The sisters played competitively together for the first time since the 2022 US Open at the Cincinnati Open earlier this month, and will now return to Grand Slam action at the scene of their last major outing as a pair.

Serena made a sensational return to tennis during the grass-court season after almost four years out of the professional game, but the 44-year-old suffered a knee injury during a first-round singles loss at Wimbledon which led to her and Venus withdrawing from the doubles at the All England Club.

Despite being the elder of the sisters having turned 46 in June, Venus has remained the more active, featuring at several tournaments in both singles and doubles this year.

The Williams sisters, who have won 14 Major titles and three Olympic gold medals as a pairing, are expected to play their opening match on September 3 or 4, with the final of the women's doubles tournament scheduled for September 11.

Two of the Williams sisters' major titles came at Flushing Meadows, in 1999 and 2009.

Serena appeared in the star-studded US Open mixed doubles tournament alongside Carlos Alcaraz on Tuesday, with the pair thrilling the crowd in a first-round win before being knocked out in the quarter-finals.

Venus was last week also given a wild card to the women's singles draw, but speculation that Serena may also play singles was ended when Sofia Kenin was awarded the final wild card over the weekend.

Serena has won 23 singles Grand Slam titles, while Venus has won seven major titles in singles.
